Backstabs are a form of critical attack and gameplay mechanic in Dark Souls, Dark Souls II, and Dark Souls III. Players may perform a backstab if they position themselves behind a humanoid enemy and do a light attack with shield down. Enemies must be on roughly the same level surface as the
Shaded Woods is a Location in Dark Souls 2. The Shaded Woods are a foggy forest that can be entered after one uses a Fragrent Branch of Yore on Rosabeth of Melfia, and features enemies with poison attack as well as a foggy section with invisible and agile opponents that often backstab the player. Undead Crypt. Leave the bonfire room, and head through the graves to the right. Turn right again, and leave the graveyard. Turn right once more, and enter the large door in the distance.
Shield up/down doesn't matter. Unlike in DkS1. I've played long enough to confirm that you can backstab while holding the shield up. The button is the same as for the standard light attack btw. Probably a left mouse click, but I'm not familiar with K&M controls.
